The Irish Football League was originally created as the football league for all of Ireland in 1890. It became the league for Northern Ireland in 1921. The current IFA Premiership was founded in 2008. The Northern Ireland football championship was previously known as Irish Football League (1890-2003) and Irish Premier League (2003-2008).
